{"id":1745,"date":"2021-01-07T20:23:48","date_gmt":"2021-01-08T01:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.legeekretrogaming.com\/geekblog\/?p=1745"},"modified":"2021-01-08T12:40:51","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T17:40:51","slug":"arcade1up-2021-rumors-and-wishes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.legeekretrogaming.com\/geekblog\/?p=1745","title":{"rendered":"Arcade1UP 2021 Rumors and Wishes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>\u00be scale Arcade1UP home cabinets keep steadily improving<\/strong> with light-up marquees, matching risers, better hardware, more accurate cabinet reproduction \u2026 even WIFI-supported multiplayer!\u00a0 I\u2019ve been tempted for a while, and late last fall I relented and ordered the QVC edition of the Ms. Pac-Man cab.<\/p>\n<p>It has the best mix of three additional games, as least for me: Pac-Mania, Super Pac-Man and Dig Dug (NO Galaxian, thank you very much!)\u00a0 I did replace the kickplate art with some vinyl from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcadegraphix.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arcade Graphix<\/a>. It\u2019s such an iconic design that I wanted to complete the look.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1748&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Anyway, these things are great, I\u2019ve since ordered Outrun and I\u2019m out of control!\u00a0 I\u2019ve got the bug, and while I am not getting more any time soon, I am very curious about their 2021 plans.\u00a0 Arcade1UP is likely to have some announcements at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ces.tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winter CES next week<\/a>, so it seems a perfect time to speculate.\u00a0 I did some digging on the internet and found three rumors that seem semi-legitimate.<\/p>\n<h1>Here they are in order of plausibility:<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>More Konami Cabinets<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Revisiting Earlier Atari releases, specifically Tempest<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>TRON!<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1749&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]So, more Konami, in my mind, means more 4-player beat \u2018em ups.\u00a0 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, paired with its sequel Turtles in Time, seems to have been well received by fans, which leaves two remaining heavy hitters: The Simpsons Arcade Game and X-Men.\u00a0 I can see both of these coming out with different additional games, and maybe even the deluxe 6-player version of X-men would get a pricy limited edition for superfans.\u00a0 Of the two, The Simpsons game would be the most tempting to me, as I am much more interested in revisiting the bizarre mashup of Konami and early Simpsons.\u00a0 If they threw in the lesser-known Sunset Riders, it would be very tempting![\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Regarding Atari, many of their games got the \u00be cab treatment early on, but being part of the earlier waves, corners were cut to keep prices down.\u00a0 There was an Asteroids cab focusing on vector titles, and a Centipede cab focusing on trackball games, then a 12-in-1 unit essentially combining the two.\u00a0 Looking at the Asteroids and Centipede 8-in-1 PartyCades that recently came out, Tastemakers could easily re-release these in \u00be cab size with 8 games, light-up marquees and a nice weighted-spinner for Tempest and call it day.\u00a0 But what if they picked different cabinets for the marquee titles?\u00a0 Tempest and Crystal Castles cabs would both look great.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1754&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1753&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/5&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1610070570669{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-left: 50px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And then there is TRON, the legendary classic title with joystick AND spinner control.\u00a0 It\u2019s a beautiful cab, and if they could do it justice, I think a lot of classic arcade fans would be very happy.\u00a0 Discs of TRON is the obvious add, but longshots GORF and Satan\u2019s Hollow utilized the same trigger joystick.\u00a0 On this one I am torn. \u00a0Having recently replayed TRON, both on XBLA and on the actual cabinet via Disney World, the IDEA of TRON is better than the reality of TRON, at least for me.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/5&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1755&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/5&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1757&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;4\/5&#8243;][vc_column_text]As a bonus, here are two ideas I think would be really cool, but I\u2019m just daydreaming.\u00a0 No rumors here, just wishes.<\/p>\n<p>Q*bert would be a nice add to their pre-crash line-up with its unique diagonal control stick.
