E3 Armchair pundit – 2015 is gonna be great!

Playing along at home during E3 is a time-honored tradition among internet nerds, myself included, and having skimmed the press conferences the message seems to be, “We have some great games coming in 2015 or later!  Please look forward to them!”  That said…there are a few promising games coming out this year.  Here’s what interests me the most.

Coming in 2014

Super Smash Bros (WiiU) – I have yet to try a game in this series, but it sounds fun and kid friendly.  The inclusion of Pac-man and the care the developers have taken with his design, moves and stages is beyond charming and bodes well for the game overall.

Destiny (PS3/4, 360 & XbOne) – Usgamer has described it as “Halo without the suffocating limitations of the Halo sandbox and Microsoft’s corporate conservatism.” Since I loved (and still love) the First HALO – but merely like the sequels – that’s kind of all I need to know.

Sunset Overdrive (XbOne) – While I will not buy a system just to play it, this game looks like a crazy Dreamcast game, if they made crazy Dreamcast games on modern hardware.

Ori and the Blind Forest (XbOne) – This may be the first M$ game that kind of makes me wish I was thinking of buying an Xbox One.

Entwined (PS3/4) – I am a sucker for art games, and I can see myself picking this up once the PS3 version is released.

Honorable mentions…

Bayonetta 2 (WiiU) – The inclusion of the first Bayonetta in the retail package makes this a pretty sweet deal, but I think I need to finish The Wonderful 101 first.

Hyrule Warriors (WiiU) – it sounds more interesting that it has any right being, but I can’t imagine picking this over the other above games.

Coming in 2015

Zelda (WiiU) – Holy Crap, that in-game engine trailer!  I am sold.  If I didn’t have a WiiU, I would get one for this game.

Splatoon (WiiU) – this looks fast paced, colorful and fun!  I’m getting a Dreamcast vibe here again, in a very good way.

Xenoblade Chronicles X (WiiU) – this continues to look amazing, but I’d best go back and beat the first Chronicles first.

The Witness (PS4) – I love Braid, I loved Myst.  This looks beautiful.  Sign me up.

Inside (XbOne) – It’s from the developer of Limbo, and it looks stunning.

Coming Sometime

Mass Effect 4, New Starfox, Star Wars Battlefront, and Mirror’s Edge 2 could all be great, but we know so little. We got Zero new news on the next Deus Ex or Final Fantasy.

Stuff I wanted to see but didn’t

No Beyond Good & Evil 2
No Dragon Quest VII
No Metroid ANYTHING.

So, some good stuff coming soonish and laterish.  My gaming time and budget being what it is, I don’t mind waiting.  And I am no longer worried about Nintendo. They had a strong show.  Now where’s my Mother 3? 😉

Cheers,
Ben
